Experience the wonders of the night sky at Everglades National Park's Dark Sky Celebration.
Everglades National Park invites you to celebrate the beauty and mystery of the night sky throughout the month of April with their Dark Sky Celebration. This park-wide program, with activations at Royal Palm, Flamingo and Shark Valley, offers over 20 free, ranger-led presentations and events open to all ages.
Learn about the cosmos and explore the wonders above:
- Delve into the characteristics of the night sky with ranger led presentations, including fascinating discussions about nocturnal wildlife, constellations and celestial objects.
- Take a guided tour of the night sky and gaze at the stars with telescopes.
- Celebrate celestial phenomena like the supermoon and the Lyrid meteor shower with dedicated programs led by rangers and guest speakers.
Everglades National Park has collaborated with Everglades Dark Sky, a regional initiative promoting night sky awareness, to offer a comprehensive program schedule. Additionally, the park partners with various organizations throughout April:
- Guest speakers like Dr. Mario Motta and Anthony Sleiman will share their expertise at the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center.
- A star party at Shark Valley will be co-hosted by astronomy enthusiasts from South Florida Amateur Astronomical Association, Southern Cross Astronomical Society, and the University of Miami.
- Following the solar eclipse on April 8, O’Miami will present consider rebirth, a poetry workshop and sound bath at the Long Pine Key Campground.
Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Everglades night sky with a captivating exhibit by photographer Anthony Sleiman. The exhibit is on display at the Guy Bradley Visitor Center in Flamingo throughout April.
