Ancient Spanish Monastery

At over 860 years of age, the Spanish Monastery is the oldest building in the Western Hemisphere. Completed in 1141, the Ancient Spanish Monastery has spent most of its existence in Segovia, Spain. The Miami Spanish Monastery served as a Cistercian monastery for almost 700 years before being converted into a granary and stable. In the 1920s, newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst had the Spanish Monastery disassembled and brought to America, where it lay in storage until developers had the monastery reassembled at its current site in Miami Beach in the 1950s.

Today, the Spanish Monastery is more than a South Florida tourist attraction. As St. Bernard de Clairvaux Episcopal Church, the Ancient Spanish Monastery is available to host weddings and receptions, both indoors or outdoors. Couples may choose from seven different wedding venues and four reception areas at the Miami Spanish Monastery. The French Altar, the most intimate of the Spanish Monastery's wedding locations, is designed for fewer than 10 people, while the Prayer Well can accommodate a wedding list with 150 to 200 people.
