A Love Letter to South Florida's Subcultures
Mar 12, 2025
From: 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Step into the storied past of South Florida's underground institutions and the colorful characters who shaped them. A Love Letter to South Florida's Subcultures, taking place Wednesday, March 12 at Gramps, brings together a compelling collection of documentary shorts that capture the essence of Miami's alternative scene.
In collaboration with the Subtropic Film Festival, the Video Consortium presents an intimate evening of storytelling through four documentary shorts. From the punk rock haven Churchill's Hideaway to Miami's oldest watering hole Mac's Club Deuce, these films chronicle the spaces and faces that have defined South Florida's counterculture for generations.
The program features works by both emerging and established filmmakers, including Matt Deblinger and Nicholas Orris's tribute to Churchill's, Julian Alicea and Amanda Ocana's exploration of Mac's Club Deuce, Pete Russell's journey into the world of boogie vans, and David Hamzik's poignant perspective on Florida's complex identity.
Doors open at 7 p.m., with screenings beginning at 7:30 p.m. Following the presentations, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the filmmakers during a Q&A session and networking event.
