Jun 13, 2025
From: 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM
Directors looking to sharpen their storytelling approach through visual language and actor collaboration can explore key fundamentals in a practical workshop at NYFA Miami in South Beach. ABFF Masterclass: Making Choices as a Director takes place Friday, June 13, as part of the American Black Film Festival’s educational programming.
Led by filmmaker, author and longtime instructor Miguel Parga, this session focuses on how directors interpret scripts and translate them into cinematic choices. Topics include identifying a scene’s central ideas, working with actors to find authenticity in performance and determining effective camera placement to support the story.
With a background that spans journalism, commercial production and fiction filmmaking, Parga brings a multifaceted perspective to the directing process. The workshop is well suited for emerging and working directors who want to strengthen their decision-making on set and bring greater intention to their creative vision.
