An Afternoon with Elizabeth Jacobson and Jen Karetnick
Feb 21, 2025
Starting: 7:00 PM
Explore poetic reflections on nature, family and place during an engaging afternoon of readings at Books & Books in Coral Gables. Featuring award-winning poets Elizabeth Jacobson and Jen Karetnick, on Sunday, March 16, the event showcases their latest collections: There Are As Many Songs in the World As Branches of Coral and Inheritance with a High Error Rate.
Jacobson’s collection draws its imagery from deserts and tropical landscapes, weaving together the immediate realities of ecological grief, family and spiritual life. Karetnick’s poems center on life in South Florida, delving into motherhood, environmental crises and the region’s unique landscapes—where peacocks roam flooded streets and octopuses appear in unexpected spaces. Both collections balance personal and universal themes, highlighting the beauty and fragility of the world around us.
This free event offers attendees the opportunity to hear both authors share their work and explore how language shapes their deeply observed environments. Copies of the featured books will be available for purchase.
