Experience the convergence of musical composition and poetic expression celebrating Cuban artistic excellence in an intimate museum setting. An Evening of Music and Poetry takes place on Friday, March 28, at the Coral Gables Museum, honoring the creative legacy of Cintas Fellows.
The program features pianist José R. López, Professor at Florida International University, performing works by renowned Cuban composers including Aurelio de la Vega, Orlando J. García and Tania León. These performances will showcase compositions that blend classical traditions with distinctive Cuban musical elements.
Interspersed with the musical selections, poets Kelly Martínez-Grandal and Legna Rodríguez Iglesias will present original works. Martínez-Grandal, recipient of the 2024 Cintas Foundation Fellowship in Creative Writing, is known for collections including Medulla Oblongata. Rodríguez Iglesias, recognized as a leading voice in contemporary Cuban poetry, brings her distinctive perspective that blends humor with social commentary.
This event offers an opportunity to experience the ongoing contributions of Cuban artists across disciplines, highlighting both established figures and emerging talents within the cultural landscape. The evening represents the continuing influence of the Cintas Fellowship in nurturing and promoting Cuban artistic expression.
