An Evening With Erik Larson
This event has passed.
Join the Miami Book Fair on Monday, November 18 for an evening with renowned historian Erik Larson as he delves into the tumultuous events leading up to the American Civil War. In his new book, The Demon of Unrest: A Saga of Hubris, Heartbreak, and Heroism at the Dawn of the Civil War, Larson explores the months following Abraham Lincoln’s election in November 1860, leading up to the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter.
The narrative delves into the complexities of this critical period, featuring key figures such as Maj. Robert Anderson, a Union loyalist with Southern ties; Edmund Ruffin, a radical voice for secession; and Mary Boykin Chesnut, who navigates the tensions of marriage and slavery. Through extensive research, including diaries and historical records, Larson crafts a compelling account of the political and personal struggles that brought the nation to the brink of war.
