Andrea Chung: Between Too Late and Too Early

This solo exhibition by artist Andrea Chung showcases her recent works alongside older pieces, inviting a dialogue on colonialism, motherhood, Blackness, trauma and imagination.

Delve into the intriguing intersection of Black liberation and Afrofuturist utopia at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami with Andrea Chung: Between Too Late and Too Early, running from November 6, 2024, to April 6, 2025.

Chung employs a variety of mediums, from intimate collages using archival images and mixed media to large-scale installations and multichannel videos. Her work often re-contextualizes history and explores alternate self-concepts, drawing inspiration from the Drexciyan myth, a utopian Black Atlantis conceived by the enigmatic Detroit electro duo Drexciya. This exhibition promises a thought-provoking experience that challenges conventional narratives and envisions new possibilities.

Andrea Chung is a San Diego-based artist with a BFA from Parsons School of Design and an MFA from Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work has been featured in prestigious venues worldwide, including biennales such as Prospect 4 in New Orleans and the Jamaican Biennale, as well as in solo exhibitions at institutions including the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, the Manetti Shrem Museum and the Art Gallery of Ontario. Chung has participated in numerous residencies and her work is included in prominent collections such as the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, the Rhode Island School of Design Museum, and the J. Paul Getty Museum.
