Artist Talk with Mary Ellen Scherl
This event has passed.
Discover the hidden stories of America's female service members through a compelling artistic lens. The Artist Talk with Mary Ellen Scherl will take place on Tuesday, March 25, at the Bakehouse Art Complex, with free admission for all attendees.
During this presentation, Scherl will discuss her multimedia project Defending Democracy: Portraits of U.S. Military Women on Canvas and Film, a nonprofit initiative that combines painted portraits of U.S. servicewomen with Sisters in Arms, an in-progress documentary series. The project aims to illuminate the experiences of military women beyond what can be captured in static artwork.
Scherl will share insights into her approach as a Social Artist, explain the mission driving this body of work and introduce audiences to the women featured in her portraits. The talk will highlight the significant but often overlooked contributions women have made throughout the history of the U.S. military.
