Black Artist Talk
Feb 22, 2025
Engage in thought-provoking discussions on art, social justice, dance and cultural preservation with leading voices in South Florida's creative community. The Black Artist Talk, taking place on Saturday, February 22 at the Deering Estate Visitor Center Theater, offers a platform for meaningful dialogue with accomplished Black artists.
Facilitated by Michelle Grant-Murray, founder of Olujimi Dance Theatre and current Deering Estate Artist-in-Residence, this program explores contemporary issues through the lens of Black artistry. Participants will delve into conversations spanning current events, artistic practices, pedagogy, social justice, historical perspectives and futurism.
Originally established in 2016 during Grant-Murray's first residency at the historic Deering Estate, this annual gathering has become an important forum for artistic exchange in South Florida. Grant-Murray brings her extensive experience as an internationally recognized performer, choreographer and educator to guide these conversations.
The event is free to attend, though space is limited and advance registration is required.
