Black Film History Month: Farming While Black
Feb 05, 2025
From: 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM
Agricultural heritage and land sovereignty take center stage in this thought-provoking documentary screening. Farming While Black, part of Barry University's Black History Month film series Labor of Love: Black Resistance Through Work & Art, will be presented on Wednesday, February 5, at the Andreas Building, Room 111.
The feature-length documentary examines the complex relationship between Black farmers and American agriculture, from historical challenges to contemporary innovations. Through personal narratives, the film chronicles how systemic barriers have shaped the agricultural landscape while highlighting a new generation of farmers working to reconnect with their agricultural heritage.
This screening is the first installment in a three-part series exploring the intersection of Black labor, resistance and artistic expression. Each Wednesday evening presentation combines film screening with community dialogue, offering students and community members an opportunity to engage with lesser-known narratives of workplace equity and agricultural innovation.
Barry University presents this free screening in partnership with South Florida People of Color (SFPoC). The event takes place at Barry University's Miami Shores campus.
