weekly on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
From: 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Explore the legacy of one of music's most celebrated performers at Miami Dade College’s Hialeah Campus Art Gallery. Celia Cruz: Work, running from January 15 through February 15, pays tribute to the life and career of La Guarachera de Cuba, Celia Cruz. Born in Havana in 1925, Cruz became an international icon, captivating audiences from Caracas to London with her powerful voice and electrifying performances. Her connection to her Cuban heritage resonated even more profoundly during her years in exile, which she described as a journey that deepened her love for her homeland.
The exhibition features a curated collection of video footage, posters, wigs and dresses that showcase Cruz’s artistry and her dedication to her fans. This celebration coincides with the centennial of Hialeah and the Freedom Tower, reflecting the shared cultural history of Miami and the Caribbean. Presented by the Museum of Art and Design (MOAD), this exhibition honors Cruz’s enduring influence on global music and her contributions to the cultural fabric of Miami.
MOAD's programming is supported by the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the State of Florida, the National Endowment for the Arts and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, with the Miami Herald serving as a media sponsor.
