The Deering Estate offers an opportunity to learn about sustainable practices and the importance of conservation through their monthly Conservation Workshop Series. Held on select Sundays each month, this series features informative workshops led by experts, perfect for anyone interested in fostering a healthy environment, both at home and within our community.

April 27: The Water Bear: A Microscopic Look at a Unique Creature
Explore the world of tardigrades, also known as water bears, in this hands-on workshop. Participants will learn about these remarkable microscopic creatures known for their extraordinary survival abilities, including withstanding extreme conditions and even exposure to outer space. Activities include examining live tardigrade samples under microscopes, collecting field samples and discussing current research from FIU's Evolutionary Interactions of Life (EV.I.L.) lab on potential real-world applications of tardigrade survival mechanisms.
May 11: Plant Propagation
Learn the art and science of growing new plants from cuttings in this practical workshop. Participants will discover successful propagation techniques, including methods that ensure the highest success rates for both easy and challenging plant varieties. This engaging session provides gardeners of all experience levels with knowledge to expand their plant collections sustainably through vegetative propagation.
