Oct 25, 2025 - Oct 26, 2025
Saturday: 7:30 PM | Sunday: 2:00 PM
An evening of orchestral masterworks and dynamic performances awaits at the New World Center as conductor Stéphane Denève leads the New World Symphony Fellows in a program highlighting major works of the 19th and 20th centuries. Denève: Price and Tchaikovsky takes place on Saturday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
The program opens with Guillaume Connesson’s Maslenitsa, a colorful and energetic work inspired by the Russian festival that signals the arrival of spring. Celebrated violinist Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider, known for his dual career as both a soloist and conductor, will perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35, a cornerstone of the violin repertoire admired for its lyrical themes and technical demands. Szeps-Znaider, currently Music Director of the Orchestre National de Lyon, has appeared with leading orchestras worldwide and is praised for his expressive artistry and refined sound.
The concert concludes with Florence Price’s Symphony No. 3 in C minor, a work commissioned during the Great Depression under the Works Progress Administration. Price’s symphony blends American musical traditions with modernist elements, offering a vibrant and distinctive voice that continues to gain broader recognition within the orchestral canon.
This performance presents a wide-ranging musical journey, connecting different eras and styles through the work of composers who have each brought distinctive perspectives to the orchestral tradition.
