Dia de los Muertos at Vizcaya Village
This event has passed.
Celebrate Día de los Muertos at Vizcaya Village on Friday, November 1, in a free gathering honoring ancestors through the sacred tradition of Danza Conchera. This evening vigil, featuring music, dance and offerings, invites attendees to reflect on the lives of those who have passed. Educators from the Ameyal Mexican Cultural Academy will prepare a memorial altar for the ceremony, and participants are encouraged to bring their own ofrendas to place on the altar before the ceremony begins at 8 p.m. All ages are welcome, though children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult, and pre-registration is required.
Danza Conchera, or Aztec Dance, is an ancient ritual with roots in Mesoamerican civilizations. It celebrates the forces of nature and life through communal dance, song and offerings. This tradition, preserved through centuries, continues to connect people to the sacred rhythms of the Earth and its cycles. Today, communities uphold this practice not only to honor the past but also to reflect on contemporary concerns about living in harmony with the natural world.
