Farrenc + Tower
Oct 12, 2025
Starting: 2:00 PM
An afternoon of chamber music at the New World Center will feature the debut of a distinguished guest artist alongside New World Symphony Fellows. Farrenc + Tower, part of the New World Symphony’s 2025–26 season, takes place on Sunday, October 12.
Martin Beaver, celebrated for his role as the first violinist of the Tokyo String Quartet from 2002 until its final season in 2013, will join the Fellows in a program that highlights works spanning the 19th and 20th centuries. The concert opens with Schubert’s Quartettsatz D 703, a single-movement work noted for its lyrical intensity, followed by Louise Farrenc’s Nonet in E-flat major, Op. 38, a rarely performed chamber piece that blends winds and strings with classical balance and Romantic expression. David Diamond’s Quintet in B minor for Flute, Piano, and Strings brings American modernist sensibilities into the mix, while the program concludes with Samuel Barber’s String Quartet in B minor, Op. 11, featuring the original setting of his famous Adagio for Strings.
Beaver’s international career has included solo and chamber performances at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall and the Sydney Opera House. In addition to extensive recordings with the Tokyo String Quartet, he has collaborated with prominent musicians including Leon Fleisher, Lynn Harrell and Yefim Bronfman, and has taught at respected institutions such as Yale School of Music and the Royal Conservatory of Music.
