FUNDarte's annual performing arts series Out In The Tropics returns for its 2024 season, showcasing bold and inventive artists tackling issues related to Gender Politics, Sexuality and LGBTQIA+ identity. As part of the series' event lineup, Out In The Tropics presents Un Poyo Rojo at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium on Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13.
Set in an empty locker room, Un Poyo Rojo features two men playing with movement, an analog radio and tiny shorts. Throughout the performance, the athletic bodies of Luciano Rosso and Alfonso Barón seamlessly transition between wrestling and dance, acrobatics and physical comedy, creating a distorted perspective on traditional notions of manhood. The humorous contemporary dance work weaves together elements of competitiveness and camaraderie, as well as moments of seduction and sabotage.
