Mar 25, 2025
From: 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Miami's Black migration history comes to life through film, interactive exhibits and firsthand accounts from community leaders during an evening of cultural exploration and dialogue. The Great Migrations: A People on The Move screening and community conversation takes place on Tuesday, March 25 at the Black Archives - Historic Lyric Theater..
The event begins with a reception featuring cocktails, light refreshments and live music. During this time, guests can experience South Florida PBS's original augmented reality (AR) installation showcasing migration stories from local community leaders.
Following the reception, the program includes a screening of excerpts from Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr.'s latest work, Great Migrations: A People on The Move, complemented by the South Florida PBS original digital series, Miami's Great Migration Stories.
The evening concludes with a panel discussion moderated by Nadege Green, Director of Community Research & Storytelling at Community Justice Project, Inc. Panelists include prominent Miami figures with generational migration experiences to share: Rosie Gordon-Wallace, founder of Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator; Dr. Dorothy Jenkins Fields, founder of The Black Archives at The Historic Lyric Theater; and Terrance Cribbs-Lorrant, Executive Director of the Historic Black Police Precinct and Museum in Overtown.
This collaborative event between South Florida PBS and The Historic Lyric Theater provides an opportunity to understand how migration patterns have shaped Miami's diverse cultural landscape over generations, combining historical context with personal narratives from community leaders.
