Dive into the complexities of Haitian culture and identity at Haitian Currents: Culture, Identity & Turbulence, taking place on Sunday, November 24, in Room 8302 at Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus. As part of the 2024 Miami Book Fair, this panel brings together authors Isabelle Camille, Jan J. Dominique and Nadège Fleurimond to explore themes of personal transformation, political upheaval and cultural heritage within the Haitian experience.
Camille’s Sole’s Mom: A Transgender Journey of Love, Loss, and Letting Go shares the emotional journey of a mother navigating her child’s gender transition against the backdrop of Haitian society. Dominique’s Tu Nous Manques offers a vivid portrayal of life in 1980s Haiti, capturing the personal struggles of a nation in turmoil. Fleurimond’s Haiti Uncovered (10th Anniversary Edition) invites readers on a culinary exploration of Haiti’s diverse regional cuisines, blending traditional recipes with stories of cultural pride. Moderated by author Marie Ketsia Theodore-Pharel, this conversation will be held in Haitian Creole with English interpretation.
