From: 10:00 AM to noon
Stroll through the historic streets of one of Miami's most iconic planned communities while learning about the architectural vision that shaped its development a century ago. The Historic Coral Gables Walking Tour takes place on Saturday, April 5, offering participants an educational journey through The City Beautiful during its centennial anniversary year.
Presented by HistoryMiami Museum, this tour is led by the institution's Resident Historian, Dr. Paul S. George, who brings over three decades of expertise to illuminate the community's development under founder George Merrick's direction. Participants will visit several significant landmarks including the Mediterranean-inspired Venetian Pool, Merrick House, the Biltmore Hotel, the DeSoto Fountain, Coral Gables Congregational Church and Poinciana Place.
Dr. George, a Miami native, accomplished author and former college professor, is known for his extensive knowledge of South Florida's history and his engaging storytelling approach. The experience includes special access to the interior of the Merrick House, offering insight into the founder's personal life.
Attendees should plan to check in between 9:30 a.m. and 9:55 a.m. at the meeting point in front of Merrick House, located at 907 Coral Way. Complimentary parking is available in the lot behind the house. Participants are advised to bring water, wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable walking shoes, and consider sun protection for this outdoor experience.
