International Coastal Cleanup at Vizcaya

Lend a hand at the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) on Saturday, September 21 at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. This global volunteer initiative tackles marine debris pollution, helping to preserve our precious ecosystems.
The Vizcaya Museum & Gardens is a unique location, featuring both mangrove forests and native hardwood hammocks bordering Biscayne Bay. These vital ecosystems face constant threats from pollution, and volunteer efforts are crucial for their continued health.
What to Expect:
Join a dedicated team of volunteers to clean up the shoreline around Vizcaya. The organizers will provide garbage bags, gloves, data collection cards and a commemorative tote bag. Additionally, community service hours are available for participating volunteers.
Registration:
Pre-registration and completion of online waivers are mandatory for participation. Completing the waivers in advance will expedite check-in on the day of the event. Minors attending without a parent or guardian require a signed waiver brought on the day.
What to Bring:
- Download the CleanSwell app by Ocean Conservancy to contribute citizen science data on collected debris.
- Dress for the weather and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes suitable for muddy mangrove terrain. Open-toed footwear is not permitted.
- Sunscreen, hat and sunglasses are recommended.
- Consider bringing reusable gloves if preferred.
- Buckets are helpful for collecting debris.
- Bring a reusable water bottle to minimize waste.
Participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
