This event has passed.
Learn the needlepoint technique of Bargello from visual artist and Fiber arts expert Liene Bosque on Saturday, October 14 at Oolite Arts. In this 3-hour workshop, participants will compose striking patterns from rows of straight stitches, arranged in a zigzag line repeated in varying shades or colors. Swatches of the patterns will be stitched together to be used as coasters or patches.
Intro to Textiles Art: Needlepoint Bargello is part of a series of workshops that explore a wide range of textile processes, tools, and materials from the perspective of contemporary Fibers and Material Studies. Each hands-on workshop delves into a different technique, such as Weaving, Needlepoint (Bargello), Macrame, and Block Print on Fabric, providing participants the opportunity to learn about specific qualities and behaviors of a variety of materials along with creative inspiration. Emphasis is placed on material exploration as well as developing an awareness of the conceptual framework. The class structure includes studio practice alongside lectures where participants will study the works of contemporary artists and observe the historical use of fibers in relation to the projects created during the workshop.
