Delve into the architectural works of artist Jorge Tacla at the Coral Gables Museum from May 3 to October 27. Curated by Yuneikys Villalonga, Director of Curatorial Programs, Jorge Tacla: A Memoir of Ruins presents a diverse selection of works spanning various periods of Tacla's career.
Born in Chile and now based in New York, Tacla's artistic journey is showcased through early paintings and works on paper from the 1980s to his recent pieces. The exhibition focuses on Tacla's exploration of architecture and the built environment, offering insights into his commentary on socio-political issues.
A graduate of the Escuela de Bellas Artes, Universidad de Chile in Santiago, Tacla moved to New York in 1981 and has since exhibited his paintings internationally. He has received numerous grants and fellowships, including a residency at the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center in Italy (2013) and awards from institutions like the New York Foundation for the Arts, Eco Art Award in Brazil and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. In 2019, the Smithsonian’s Archives of American Art acquired Tacla's collection of papers, providing a comprehensive look into his artistic journey spanning nearly forty years.
