On Saturday, October 12, the renowned Julio Montalvo Cuban Collective will take center stage at the Koubek Center Theater for an evening of Afro-Cuban jazz. This talented ensemble, led by celebrated trombonist Julio Montalvo, blends Afro-Cuban rhythms with the latest trends in modern jazz. The collective, which can range from a quartet to a larger group of musicians, will perform a mix of original compositions and select interpretations of Latin Jazz, Cuban `and Brazilian music.
Julio Montalvo, a leading figure in Cuban music, has earned acclaim as a composer, arranger and orchestra director, with two of his albums nominated for the Cuba Disco Awards in the Best Jazz Album category. His extensive career includes collaborations with international jazz and Latin music artists such as Pat Metheny, Oscar D'León and Los Van Van.
Presented in partnership with the Spanish Cultural Center and Miami-Dade County Auditorium, this concert is part of the MDCA Away from Home Series, which continues to bring the magic of performing arts to South Florida audiences during the auditorium’s renovation. The program is supported by the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the State of Florida through the Division of Arts and Culture.
