Juneteenth Day of Service: The Green Haven Project
This event has passed.
Celebrate Juneteenth by giving back to the community and supporting a vital resource at the 4th Annual Juneteenth Day of Service on Wednesday, June 19. Held at The Green Haven Project in Wynwood, this volunteer event, organized by Miami Waterkeeper and Mino Learning Lab, offers an opportunity to connect with your community and make a positive impact.
The Green Haven Project is a community garden established in 2018 to address the issue of food insecurity in Overtown, one of Miami's oldest neighborhoods. Once a thriving commercial center, Overtown now faces economic challenges and a lack of access to fresh produce. The Green Haven Project empowers residents to grow their own healthy food and cultivate a stronger sense of community.
Tasks involve assisting in the community garden. Volunteers will engage in tasks that may require heavy lifting and bending, making it suitable for teenagers and older groups. Younger children should be closely supervised by a guardian. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. As a bonus, volunteers who register and participate will receive a free ticket to SuperBlue Miami.
Here's what to bring:
- Refillable water bottle
- Closed-toe shoes (long sleeves and pants are recommended)
- Hat and sunscreen
- Gardening gloves (optional - some will be provided)
The event is weather-dependent and may be canceled with short notice in case of inclement weather.
