Miami Underground: What We Did is Secret
Nov 23, 2024
Starting: 11:00 AM
Step into the vibrant world of Miami's underground arts and music scene with Miami Underground: What We Did is Secret, taking place on Saturday, November 23 in the MAGIC Screening Room at the Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus. This engaging discussion, part of the 2024 Miami Book Fair, explores the alt-culture of 1980s Miami, when artists, musicians and creatives gathered in the city’s limited cultural spaces, crafting multidisciplinary events that would shape the future of Miami’s cultural landscape.
Led by Punk Under The Sun: Punk & New Wave in South Florida authors Joey Seeman and Chris Potash, the panel includes Ale Campos and Emilie Milgrim of the Miami-based band Las Nubes, Artifacts Gallery founder Howard Davis and drummer and author Joey Maya (aka Joey Wrecked). Together, they’ll reflect on Miami’s DIY roots and how those early creative efforts have influenced the city’s current cultural identity, from Art Basel to Ultra Music Festival.
