MOAD Makes Ceramics with Polo Ramírez
Jan 26, 2025
From: 11:00 AM to 03:00 PM
Discover the art of Chilalo pottery at MOAD Makes.
Join the Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at Miami Dade College for a hands-on workshop led by ceramic artist Polo Ramírez. On Sunday, January 26, participants will learn traditional Peruvian pottery-making techniques.
Ramírez, trained by his family in the Vicús and Tallán traditions, emphasizes the human touch in his work, eschewing pottery wheels and other machinery. In this workshop, participants will engage in handbuilding techniques to create their own bird whistles, inspired by the Chilalo, a bird from northern Perú known for its legendary association with pottery making.
Partnering with the Ceramic League of Miami (CLM), MOAD aims to bring this art experience to the South Florida community. With a focus on ceramic arts and a commitment to accessibility and inclusion, CLM creates environments that cater to all experience levels.
This program is inspired by Miami Dade College’s Kislak Collection and offers a chance to connect with ancient traditions and create beautiful, functional pieces of art. Open to ages 12 and above. Free parking is available onsite on a first-come, first-served basis.
