Music in Beautiful Spaces: Mendelssohn & Clarke
Apr 05, 2025
From: 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM
Discover the overlooked genius of two pioneering women in classical music in an intimate chamber setting. Music in Beautiful Spaces: Mendelssohn & Clarke takes place on Saturday, April 5 at All Soul's Episcopal Church as part of the South Beach Chamber Ensemble's 2025 Series.
The program features two compelling piano trios: Fanny Mendelssohn's Piano Trio in D minor, Op. 11 (1846-47), known for its stormy emotional waves building into a magnificent musical structure, and Rebecca Clarke's Piano Trio in Eb major (1921), which demonstrates the technical mastery and emotional depth characteristic of her compositions.
Fanny Mendelssohn, a brilliant German composer whose works remained largely unpublished during her lifetime, created what many consider "one of her most impressive chamber works" in this trio. Rebecca Clarke stands as one of the most distinguished British female composers of her generation, particularly celebrated for her chamber music.
This performance offers a rare opportunity to experience these masterworks in the acoustically rich environment of All Soul's Episcopal Church. The venue provides free parking, and with limited seating available, early arrival is recommended.
