Feb 13, 2025
From: 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM
Explore the inspiring legacy of Black baseball players who transformed the sport during an evening of film and conversation at SoundScape Park. On Thursday, February 13, the City of Miami Beach’s OnStage! program and Black Affairs Advisory Board presents a screening of WLRN Public Television’s latest documentary, Never Drop the Ball, followed by a panel discussion.
This one-hour film chronicles the journey of Black baseball players who, during the era of segregation, built their own leagues and elevated the game into a global phenomenon. Highlighting teams such as the Miami Giants, later known as the Indianapolis Clowns, the documentary explores how these athletes influenced baseball's evolution through barnstorming tours and innovative play styles.
After the screening, join a panel discussion moderated by Tom Hudson from WLRN News, featuring historian Dr. Dorothy Fields, Abel Sanchez and Michael Anderson, as they provide additional insights into the film and its themes.
Bring a blanket or beach chair for an evening of historical discovery under the stars.
