Night of Ideas
Apr 02, 2025
From: 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Explore the complex intersection of art, ideology and truth during an evening of intellectual exchange at a global cultural event. Night of Ideas takes place on Wednesday, April 2 at The Wolfsonian-FIU, bringing Miami into a worldwide conversation on contemporary issues.
This local edition, part of an annual series organized by Villa Albertine (the French Institute for Culture and Education), examines how artistic expression influences ideological frameworks, shapes perception and defines truth. The evening begins with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by an exhibition tour of The Big World: Alternative Landscapes in the Modern Era led by chief curator Silvia Barisione.
The central event is a panel discussion titled Art, Ideology, and Truth: From Aesthetic Control to Post-Truth Culture, running from 7-8:30 p.m. Speakers will analyze how artistic production in both the United States and France has historically reinforced cultural norms, legitimized political ideologies and blurred boundaries between fact and fiction. The conversation will extend to examining visual storytelling's role in today's media landscape characterized by manipulation and competing narratives.
This free event is part of a coordinated worldwide initiative by the Institut Français, presented with Villa Albertine and the Albertine Foundation through support from the Judy & Peter Blum Kovler Foundation and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
