Painting with Eco-Friendly Dyes: Agriculture Nights Workshop
Mar 13, 2025
Two sessions: 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM
Creativity and sustainability come together in an engaging hands-on workshop at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. Painting with Eco-Friendly Dyes: Agriculture Nights Workshop takes place on Thursday, March 13, at Vizcaya Village, offering participants the opportunity to explore natural textile painting using indigo pigment and soy milk. Two sessions are being offered, one at 6:00 p.m. and the other at 7:30 p.m. These sessions part of the AgriCulture Nights: Connect & Create series, which highlights the relationship between plants, creativity and community.
Led by Miami-based designer and educator Veronica Buitron, the workshop introduces participants to eco-friendly dyeing techniques, focusing on fabric pretreatment and natural paint creation. Attendees will design and personalize a throw pillowcase, drawing inspiration from fresh plants and flowers found in Vizcaya’s gardens. Throughout the evening, continuous guidance will be provided, and participants will learn about the history and cultural significance of indigo dyeing.
All materials, including indigo pigment, soy milk and fabric, will be provided. No prior experience is necessary, making this an inviting space for all skill levels to experiment and create. Tickets are $10 for adults, while children 12 and under can attend for free.
The workshop will take place exclusively at Vizcaya Village, the estate’s historic farm area, and does not include access to the Main House or formal gardens. As part of Vizcaya’s commitment to accessibility, all community programs are hosted in areas that are physically accessible to visitors.
For those interested in exploring the creative and cultural significance of plants, this event offers an opportunity to engage with sustainable art practices while connecting with Miami’s natural environment.
