Poetry for Preservation
Apr 06, 2025
Starting: 10:00 AM to Noon
Harness the power of words to protect one of Miami's natural treasures during this unique outdoor writing experience. Poetry for Preservation takes place on Sunday, April 6, at Oleta River State Park as part of the O, Miami Poetry Festival, which runs throughout April.
This workshop invites participants to connect with nature while creating meaningful advocacy through poetry. Attendees will begin by reading selected nature poems before exploring the diverse landscape of Oleta River State Park, Florida's largest urban park. Drawing inspiration from this immersive experience, participants will then craft their own poems, which will be collected and mailed to the Florida Governor's office as artistic letters advocating for the park's continued preservation.
The session will be led by Dana Raja Wahab, an experienced writer and teaching artist with diverse experience across creative industries. Dana holds an M.A. in Creative Writing from Goldsmiths, University of London, and currently teaches in O, Miami's Sunroom program while managing and editing O, Miami book projects. Previously, she spent seven years as a teaching artist at The Cushman School and has extensive experience in English instruction, copywriting and editing.
This collaborative event is presented by DRW Content, the Miami Design Preservation League and Oleta River State Park.
