Poetry for the Pines: Guided Hike
This event has passed.
Explore nature's beauty and find inspiration for your own creativity at Poetry for the Pines: Guided Hike, held at Camp Owaissa Bauer in Homestead on Sunday, April 21 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Presented by O, Miami as part of the 2024 O, Miami Poetry Festival, this special event celebrates the recent victory by ReWild Miami to protect a vital pine rockland forest near Zoo Miami.
The afternoon unfolds in three parts:
- Led by Zac Cosner, a lifelong Miamian and environmental activist with ReWild Miami, participants will embark on a guided hike through one of South Florida's last remaining pine rockland forests. This immersive experience allows guests to witness firsthand the unique beauty and delicate ecosystem of this threatened habitat.
- Following the hike, Cuban-American writer and filmmaker Alexandra Martinez will lead a poetry workshop. Inspired by the sights and sounds encountered on the hike, participants will explore the art of using nature as a source of creative expression.
- The event culminates with a gathering around a fire, providing a warm and inviting space for participants to share their newly-created poems and connect with fellow nature enthusiasts.
This event is a unique opportunity to learn about the importance of preserving South Florida's pine rockland forests and gain inspiration for creative writing through a guided exploration of nature.
