Point Comfort Art Fair + Show
Dec 05, 2024 - Dec 08, 2024
Thurs-Sun: Noon to 8:00 PM
The Point Comfort Art Fair + Show 2024 returns to Historic Overtown’s Historic Ward Rooming House from December 5 to 8, immersing Miami Art Week attendees in a curated journey through African-American art and culture. Presented by Hampton Art Lovers, the event features an art exhibition and the Indaba Lounge Series, offering a space for reflection and dialogue centered around this year’s theme, “Ubuntu: I Am Because We Are.” Sponsored by the City of Miami Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Revitalization Agency, Art of Black Miami and several other community organizations, this event emphasizes the enduring connections and resilience within the African-American community.
Inside the Ward Rooming House, One Night Stand! showcases the work of photographer Greg Clark, who captures the history of Overtown's vibrant music scene in evocative portraits. This exhibition pays homage to the neighborhood’s role in soul music history, featuring images of local musicians and iconic venues that once drew legends like Sam Cooke. Clark’s photography is displayed alongside oral histories, preserving Overtown’s cultural heritage in partnership with FIU Wolfsonian Public Humanities Lab.
Outdoors, the gardens host an array of contemporary artists, including Solomon Adufah, Adonis Parker and Judy Bowman, displayed in a tented space designed for the larger-than-life expressions that reflect the ubuntu theme. A notable installation from OneUnited Bank showcases Adonis Parker’s original artwork featured on its OneLove™ credit cards, celebrating themes of love, community and connection.
The Indaba Lounge Series complements the art displays with a line-up of conversations, music and unique experiences. Named after the Swahili word for “meeting,” the series fosters community through art talks, live DJ sets by Fly Guy & Six Millz and an “Art Rigs and Rugged Elegance” car exhibit in front of the Ward Rooming House. Set in a restored Bahamian-style building that once welcomed Black and Native American travelers, the event honors the neighborhood’s legacy while drawing an international audience for a powerful celebration of art, history and unity.
