Razing Liberty Square Screening and Climate Panel
This event has passed.
Step into a thoughtful exploration of the complex intersection between climate change, racial justice and urban development. The Razing Liberty Square Screening and Climate Panel takes place Wednesday, March 26 at the Frost Institute for Chemistry and Molecular Science.
This campus premiere showcases a documentary examining how Miami's position as ground zero for sea-level rise impacts vulnerable communities. When Liberty Square public housing residents discovered a $300 million revitalization project planned for their neighborhood in 2015, they recognized their location on the city's highest and driest ground put them at risk of displacement through climate gentrification.
Following the screening, attendees will engage with local climate experts during a panel discussion featuring Caroline Lewis from The CLEO Institute and Valencia Gunder from The Smile Trust.
This event is jointly hosted by the University of Miami Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy, University of Miami Climate Resilience Institute, The CLEO Institute, The Smile Trust and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Katja Esson as part of the Miami Climate Week event lineup.
