From: 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM
Discover how Miami's historic landmarks can be preserved in the face of rising sea levels and changing climate conditions. Saving Places from the Risks of Climate Change will take place on Friday, March 28 at the Coral Gables Museum, featuring a panel discussion on protecting the region's architectural heritage.
This forum, organized in conjunction with The Villagers' Garden Tour programming, brings together experts to discuss strategies for restoring and protecting historic sites that face environmental challenges. The event offers valuable insights for property owners, preservation enthusiasts and community members concerned about maintaining Miami's unique architectural character.
The Villagers, Inc., Miami-Dade's oldest historic preservation organization, has been instrumental in protecting the area's cultural and architectural heritage since 1966. Originally formed to save Coral Gables' Douglas Entrance from demolition, this all-volunteer organization has expanded its mission throughout the county. Over its 57-year history, The Villagers have funded more than 230 local projects, awarded grants to over 80 sites and organizations, and provided more than 225 university scholarships to advance historic preservation.
Beyond financial support, the organization has been active in identifying and nominating properties for the National Register of Historic Places and advocating for preservation at threatened sites. Their early hands-on restoration work at landmarks like Vizcaya and the Venetian Pool demonstrates their longstanding commitment to preserving Miami's distinctive character.
This event is free and open to the public.
