SOBEWFF® Overtown EatUp!
This event has passed.
Overtown EatUp! returns on Sunday, February 25 for its second consecutive year with a tribute to the rich culinary traditions and cultural pride of Miami's Overtown community. Presented as part of South Beach Wine and Food Festival's 2024 event line up, this walk-around tasting, curated and hosted by James Beard Award-winning chef, TV personality and cookbook author Marcus Samuelsson, will shine a spotlight on the local cuisine and culture that remain integral to the city’s Black history.
Set against the backdrop of Overtown’s Ninth Street Pedestrian Mall, Overtown EatUp! provides the perfect ambiance for a stellar lineup of Overtown chefs to showcase their talents. Together, these talented chefs will craft a dynamic menu of flavors, complemented by premium wines and cocktails from the Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits portfolio. This afternoon affair promises to evoke the lively sounds of Overtown's heyday when legends such as Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin frequented the Historic Lyric Theater next door and socialized at the Clyde Killens Pool Hall, now the home of Red Rooster Overtown. A blend of respect and revelry, Overtown EatUp! stands as a heartfelt ode to the “Harlem of the South" and its influence on shaping modern-day Miami.
This year's guest chef's include Osei "Chef Picky" Blackett of Ariapita, Karim Bryant of Lil Greenhouse Grill, Shelly Flash of 2 Girls & a Cookshop, Kenny Gilbert of Red Rooster Overtown, Donaven Jackson of Jackson Bros Ice Cream, Amaris Jones of Chick N Jones, Serigne Mbaye of Dakar Nola, Millie Peartree, Daren Reid of PurpleLit Oyster Company, Derek Turton of World Famous House of Mac and Stephanie Wooten of Cornycopia.
Proceeds from this year's event will go towards FIU’s Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management, specifically allocated as scholarship funding for students from Overtown.
