Soundologia Anthology: Volume 1 & 2
Mar 29, 2025
From: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
South Florida's contemporary music landscape comes alive through an innovative collection spanning acoustic compositions and experimental soundscapes. Soundologia Anthology: Volume 1 & 2 takes place Saturday, March 29 at the Deering Estate Visitor Center Theater, offering an evening of discussion and live performances.
The event features musicologist and Soundologia founder Pedja Kovačević hosting a panel with composers and sound artists whose works appear in the anthology's two volumes. Participants will include both in-person and virtual guests sharing insights into their creative processes and the significance of this collaborative project.
Volume 1 of the anthology primarily showcases acoustic compositions, including works by Gustavo Matamoros, Federico Bonacossa, Orlando Jacinto Garcia, Dorothy Hindman, Catalina von Wrangell and Chen-Hui Jen. Volume 2, newly released in March, explores the experimental side of contemporary music with electronic elements from artists like Alba Triana, Jacob David Sudol, José Hernández Sánchez, José Veliz, Juraj Kojš and Richard Garet.
The event will also highlight the visual components of the anthology with art director Dimitry Saïd Chamy discussing his contributions to the digital booklet. Select pieces from both volumes will be performed live through the theater's new quadraphonic sound system, creating an immersive audio experience for attendees.
Soundologia, a platform dedicated to promoting contemporary and experimental music, launched its record label with this anthology series. The first volume is currently available on the Soundologia Bandcamp page and website, accompanied by a digital booklet featuring compositional notes, artist biographies and visual elements.
This program is part of the Deering Estate Sound Arts Series curated by Gustavo Matamoros, a respected experimental music artist and founding artistic director of the Subtropics Festival in Miami. The event is supported by Subtropics Org with assistance from Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs and various presenting sponsors.
