Weed Pulling and Citizen Science Micro-climate Project
Mar 23, 2025
From: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Discover the delicate balance of South Florida's ecosystem while making a tangible difference in its preservation. The Weed Pulling and Citizen Science Micro-climate Project invites community members to Hattie Bauer Hammock in Homestead on Sunday, March 23;
The event, presented by Miami Climate 365 as part of Miami Climate Week, combines hands-on conservation work with scientific data collection. Participants will engage in two essential activities: removing invasive plant species that threaten native biodiversity and contributing to an ongoing micro-climate study that helps researchers better understand environmental patterns specific to South Florida's natural areas.
This outdoor experience provides valuable learning opportunities for volunteers, students and nature enthusiasts interested in environmental stewardship. By participating in both the physical restoration work and the citizen science component, attendees gain practical knowledge about ecological conservation while contributing meaningful data to local research efforts.
The Hattie Bauer Hammock setting offers a glimpse into the region's distinctive hammock ecosystem, characterized by its elevated, hardwood forest patches that create unique environmental conditions worth protecting and studying.
