Zara Chowdhary on Anti-Muslim Violence

As part of the 2024 Miami Book Fair, Zara Chowdhary will present her powerful memoir, The Lucky Ones, on Saturday, November 23 at Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus. This event will delve into her personal experience as a survivor of anti-Muslim violence in contemporary India, offering a poignant exploration of a multigenerational Muslim family caught in the turmoil of political and religious conflict. Chowdhary will be joined in conversation by author and journalist Meena Ahamed, providing additional context to this timely and deeply moving narrative.

Zara Chowdhary is an accomplished writer and lecturer at the University of Wisconsin. She holds an MFA in creative writing and environment from Iowa State University and a master’s in writing for performance from the University of Leeds. Chowdhary’s work spans documentary television, advertising and film, and she now resides in Madison, Wisconsin with her family.
