Born August 6, 1950 in Coconut Grove, Winston Elliott Scott is one of the first African-American astronauts. Selected by NASA in 1992, Mr. Scott served as a mission specialist on the Endeavor in 1996 and Columbia in 1997, where he logged 24 days, 14 hours and 34 minutes in space, including three spacewalks totaling 19 hours and 26 minutes. Mr. Scott retired from NASA and the U.S. Navy in July 1999. He is now Dean of the College of Aeronautics at the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida.
