Miami Dade Reef Guard Association
Business Resources
The Reef Guard Association was set up in response to the Florida Coral Reef Protection Act.
This resulted in the installation of 42 mooring buoys being installed along the reefs adjacent to Miami-Dade County. These buoys were maintained through 2015 by donations and grants from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. There are about 48 miles of coral reef adjacent to Miami-Dade County. 25 miles are inside of Biscayne National Park. The other 23 miles are the responsibility of the Miami Dade Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM).
The good news is that since 2018 the mooring buoys are now fully funded by Miami Dade County.
Following an expansion in completed in 2023 there are now a total of 54 mooring buoys.
