A fantastic way to experience Jones Lagoon is by kayak or canoe. Only an experienced kayaker would want to attempt to cross the seven miles from the mainland to Jones Lagoon in their own kayak. For most visitors, it's best to book a guided tour. You may spot some of the lagoon’s rich marine life including turtles, baby sharks, rays, upside-down jellyfish and bright pink roseate spoonbills. Your guide will lead you through protected mangroves past wading birds as you glide over the aquamarine waters of the lagoon. Stand-up paddle boarding is another option to explore the shallow waters of Jones Lagoon. Jones Lagoon is a fragile ecosystem, so swimming and snorkeling is not allowed. If you are looking for a place to swim or snorkel, consider heading to some of the nearby islands such as Boca Chita Key, Adams Key or Elliott Key.
