An Evening with Connie Mae Oliver and Kelly Martínez-Grandal
Feb 21, 2025
Starting: 7:00 PM
Explore the intersection of language, dreams and cultural memory through an intimate evening of poetry and conversation. Books & Books in Coral Gables presents An Evening with Connie Mae Oliver and Kelly Martínez-Grandal on Friday, April 18, featuring a discussion of Oliver's new bilingual poetry collection, dormilona.
In this free literary event, Oliver explores the dreamscapes and sleep rituals of Venezuelan culture, weaving together themes of family bonds, geographical distances and the fluid nature of bilingual experience. The work draws connections between sleep studies and cultural memories, while exploring the author's connection to her mother, grandmother and homeland.
Oliver, a poet and artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area, will be joined by accomplished poet and essayist Kelly Martínez-Grandal. Martínez-Grandal brings her own perspective as a Cuban-Venezuelan writer and recent Cintas Foundation Fellowship recipient.
Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase dormilona during the event and meet the author.
