An Evening with Ilan Stavans and Margaret Boyle
This event has passed.
Explore the rich fusion of Jewish and Mexican culinary traditions with Professors Ilan Stavans and Margaret Boyle at Books & Books in Coral Gables. On Tuesday, January 14, the authors will discuss their new book, Sabor Judío: The Jewish Mexican Cookbook, an in-depth exploration of Jewish and Mexican food, culture, and history.
Featuring 100 personal recipes, Sabor Judío delves into how Jewish and Mexican cuisines have intertwined over centuries, from breakfast and dinner staples to dishes for Shabbat and Jewish holidays. Alongside the recipes, the book traces the history of Jewish immigration to Mexico and the evolution of these distinct flavors. This event is free, and copies of the book will be available for purchase. It’s an opportunity to connect with two award-winning authors and gain insight into this dynamic culinary heritage.
Jewish Mexican scholar and critic Ilan Stavans is the Lewis-Sebring Professor of Humanities and Latin American and Latino Culture at Amherst College. Margaret Boyle is the director of Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies at Bowdoin College and an associate professor of Romance Languages and Literatures.
