Art Gaysel

From December 5-7, Hotel Gaythering, home of the gayest bar in Miami Beach (named Best Gay Bar by Miami New Times’ Best of Miami 2021), is hosting its annual queer art fair, Art Gaysel. Over 30 queer artists from around the globe will showcase their artwork in self-directed mini-workshops and galleries for guests of all ages to enjoy. The event, taking place across the hotel's 23 rooms on Lincoln Road in South Beach, will run until late at night Thursday through Saturday.

“While most fairs run all day and close before dinner, we open for happy hour and close late at night,” said Alex Guerra, the hotel’s co-owner as well as a co-organizer of the show. “This timing structure sets us apart as a more relaxed fair where collectors, gallerists and other artists can meet, mingle and admire the work the other fairs are starved of.”

Partnering with Provincetown Commons

Guerra, an artist in his own right, has partnered once again this year to showcase artists from Provincetown Commons, a collaborative workspace for artists and small businesses in Provincetown, at the northern tip of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Known as the oldest continuous art colony in America, Provincetown, commonly referred to as P-town, has been a haven for artists, the queer community and, especially, queer artists.

Supporting LGBTQIA+-Identifying Artists

Each artist was hand-selected by Guerra, who keeps his finger on the pulse of the art scene, especially for artists who identify as LGBTQIA+. This highlight of Miami Art Week, happening concurrently with Art Basel Miami Beach, is the eighth year of Art Gaysel and another year of opportunities for the gay community to display and celebrate their artwork. 

“Art Gaysel is unapologetically queer,” shared Guerra about Art Gaysel 2022. “The fair gives emerging queer artists a platform during arguably the most prestigious art week in the country. We cannot think of a better way to use our platform and our hotel than to showcase such talents.”

Free For All
