Becoming a Desiring Archipelago with Francisco Godoy
This event has passed.
Delve into complex geographical structures through an artistic lens at this seminar and conversation with writer and curator Francisco Godoy. Becoming a Desiring Archipelago takes place on Wednesday, April 16, at the Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum, with free admission.
The discussion centers on the work of Agustín Fernández, a featured artist in the recent publication Agustín Fernández: Obsession as a Thought Process. Godoy, a contributing author to this publication, will place Fernández's work in dialogue with other artists and thinkers, examining how desire can function as a lens for understanding geopolitical histories.
Archipelagos—among geography's most intricate forms—have captivated artists exploring alternative perspectives, particularly those drawing from "epistemologies of the south." This seminar offers a thoughtful exploration of these concepts through Fernández's artistic vision.
Francisco Godoy Vega brings considerable expertise as a writer, artist and independent curator with a PhD in Art History and Visual Culture from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. His background includes research positions at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and teaching experience at multiple universities. Godoy is also a member of the Ayllu collective and co-directs the Palenque Chiquichinchay Program for Transgressive Migrants.
