Bill Baggs Earth Day with the Cateura Recycled Orchestra
Apr 27, 2025
From: 09:00 AM to 12:30 PM
Discover the perfect blend of environmental awareness, music and hands-on creativity at a special Earth Day celebration on Key Biscayne's most scenic shoreline. The Bill Baggs Earth Day with the Cateura Recycled Orchestra takes place Sunday, April 27, at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, offering visitors a free, inclusive experience that highlights innovative approaches to sustainability through art.
The day's centerpiece is the internationally recognized Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, an ensemble that crafts musical instruments from materials salvaged from landfills. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet orchestra members at 9 a.m. and learn about their inspiring journey, which has been documented in film.
From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., participants can join a hands-on workshop to create their own musical instruments from recycled materials. Additional art-making stations led by local artists and park rangers will be available throughout the morning, with food trucks on site offering refreshments and snacks for purchase.
The event culminates at 1 p.m. with a community concert where visitors can play their newly created instruments alongside the Recycled Orchestra, creating a unique collaborative musical experience.
After the event concludes around 2 p.m., guests are welcome to remain in the park until sundown to enjoy the beaches, visit the historic lighthouse or browse the gift shop. Free park entry and parking is included with registration, though attendees may opt to add a donation to support the Recycled Orchestra when securing their tickets.
Organized by the Friends of Cape Florida in collaboration with various community groups, this rain-or-shine event takes place in Area A of the state park.
