BIMS Sweeps the Beach x BioBlitz
This event has passed.
Ocean enthusiasts and anyone passionate about protecting our environment won't want to miss BIMS Sweeps the Beach x BioBlitz. This impactful event, hosted by Black in Marine Science (BIMS) in collaboration with Plastic Free Cities partners, Ocean Conservancy, Debris Free Oceans and Big Blue & You takes place on Saturday, June 15 from noon to 6:00 p.m. at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park.
The day is divided into two parts:
Empowering Young Leaders (Noon to 2:00 p.m.)
This session, limited to 30 participants and requiring registration, offers a Plastic Free Cities Workshop. Aspiring young environmental leaders will learn how to tackle plastic pollution in their own neighborhoods. The workshop equips participants with skills in preventing plastic pollution at the source, advocating for sustainable practices and fostering youth leadership.
Beach Cleanup & BioBlitz (2:00 to 6:00 p.m.)
Open to 150 participants, this afternoon session welcomes walk-ups alongside those who registered for the earlier workshop and BBQ. Activities include:
- A beach cleanup to remove marine debris and contribute to a cleaner ocean environment.
- A BioBlitz biodiversity survey, where participants will collect data on beach sediment and marine life, contributing to a BIMS biodiversity analysis.
Lend a hand to protect our marine ecosystems. Registration is encouraged for the Plastic Free Cities Workshop & BBQ, while walk-ups are welcome for the cleanup and BioBlitz. For questions or disability accommodations, contact maddie@debrisfreeoceans.org.
