BPM : Beats, Pics & Masters
Mar 27, 2025 - Jul 24, 2025
The hidden sacrifices of nightlife entertainers take center stage in a thought-provoking visual exploration of DJ culture. BPM: Beats, Pics & Masters runs from March 27 through July 24 at the SOA MBUS Washington Gallery in Miami Beach.
Created by multi-hyphenate artist Rahsaan "Fly Guy" Alexander and curated by Noëlle Françoise, this three-part exhibition delves into the mental, emotional and psychological challenges faced by DJs who dedicate their lives to entertaining audiences. The series aims to humanize these artists by offering visitors a glimpse into their experiences beyond the turntables, particularly in the context of a post-pandemic world that has transformed the entertainment industry.
Through striking visuals and storytelling, Alexander invites viewers to consider the sacrifices that underpin the DJ lifestyle, revealing the real people behind the beats who navigate their demanding profession with resilience and passion. The exhibition serves as both a celebration of DJs' contributions and a call for greater awareness of their struggles.
The opening reception will be held on March 27 from 6-8 p.m. at the Washington Gallery. The exhibition is free and open to the public, made possible with support from the City of Miami Beach Department of Tourism and Cultural Development, Office of Cultural Affairs and the Miami Beach Mayor and City Commissioners.
